Signed books from Writers' Conference

     At the end of October, I volunteered at a Writer's Conference and it was amazing! I got to meet so many authors and fellow writers, and got to attend great workshops! I definitely recommend going to Conference and events for writers, particularly if you are a young writer. There was a singing session in one of the days and I got a few books signed, and I am going to tell you guys a little bit about them, and hopefully you will read them and like the authors as much as I liked meeting them.

1- A Bollywood Affair 
        The cover is so pretty and Sonali Dev is so nice! She also had some great workshops and I am excited to read her book!

     Mili Rathod hasn’t seen her husband in twenty years—not since she was promised to him at the age of four. Yet marriage has allowed Mili a freedom rarely given to girls in her village. Her grandmother has even allowed her to leave India and study in America for eight months, all to make her the perfect modern wife. 2- The Eyre Affair

        When Jasper Fford talked about his books to us and the way he writes, I had to immediately buy this one! It sounds insane but good and I am so excited to read it! 

Welcome to a surreal version of Great Britain, circa 1985, where time travel is routine, cloning is a reality (dodos are the resurrected pet of choice), and literature is taken very, veryseriously. England is a virtual police state where an aunt can get lost (literally) in a Wordsworth poem, militant Baconians heckle performances of Hamlet, and forging Byronic verse is a punishable offense. All this is business as usual for Thursday Next, renowned Special Operative in literary detection, until someone begins kidnapping characters from works of literature. When Jane Eyre is plucked from the pages of Brontë's novel, Thursday must track down the villain and enter the novel herself to avert a heinous act of literary homicide.

3- The Professionals 

       Owen Laukkanen said that he got inspiration for this novel from his friends, and that sounds strange but cool. His workshop was great and I got to help out in it! Although this isn't a book I would normally buy, I am excited to read it and find out more about it.

Four friends, recent college graduates, caught in a terrible job market, joke about turning to kidnapping to survive. And then, suddenly, it's no joke. For two years, the strategy they devise-quick, efficient, low risk-works like a charm. Until they kidnap the wrong man.

Now two groups they've very much wanted to avoid are after them-the law, in the form of veteran state investigator Kirk Stevens and hotshot young FBI agent Carla Windermere, and an organized-crime outfit looking for payback. As they all crisscross the country in deadly pursuit and a series of increasingly explosive confrontations, each of them is ultimately forced to recognize the truth: The true professionals, cop or criminal, are those who are willing to sacrifice . . . everything.

4- Dragonfly in Amber

        Even though I have never read Outlander, I had to get a book signed by Diana Gabaldon, because I know that one day when I read it, I will probably love it and I couldn't let the opportunity to meet her pass. Outlander was sold out so I got the second book. Hopefully I will read it soon.

January Book Haul!

There is a big sale at this bookstore and everything is 50% because they are closing. So I obviously bought some books. Then a friend of mine is moving and she had a garage sale. It is safe to assume that now I own half of her books. I am super happy but also super worried about the fact that now I own more than 50 unread books. It's a first for me! The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender

I love the cover and apparently this is a really good book!

Prisoner of Night and Fog

Sasha (from Abookutopia on Youtube) loved this book and it sounds really cool. I don't usually read a lot of historical fiction but I am really intrigued about this book. 

Remember

Soon afterward, she’s plagued with strange symptoms, including hallucinations of a woman who is somehow both a stranger, yet incredibly familiar. Together with Neil, who insists he has his own reasons for needing answers about the real dangers of Memtex, Harper begins her search for the truth. What she finds could uproot all she’s ever believed about her life…

I meet Eileen Cook and she is so nice. I read "Year of Mistaken Discoveries" and I loved her writing style!

Illuminae

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. This book looks so cool! I am so freaking excited to read it!

Life and Death

Mirroring the plot of Twilight, Life and Death follows the story of 17-year-old Beaufort Swan as he leaves the sunny environment of Phoenix, Arizona where he has spent a sizable portion of his life with his mother, Renée Dwyer, to the gloomy town of Forks, Washingtonto spend the rest of his high school career with his estranged father, police chief Charlie Swan.

On his first day at Forks High School, he meets the alluring telepathic vampire Edythe Cullen, who is both frustrated and infatuated with him for his vulnerabilities and her inability to read his mind.

As a former Twilight fangirl, I just have to read this book. Yes, it's a really weird idea, but I am curious about it.

The Knife of Never Letting Go (plus The Ask and the Answer, and Monsters of Men)

It sounds really good and my friend said that this is one of her favourite series. So I bought the other two books as well.

The Calling (Endgame)

I remember that everyone was interested about this book when it came out (I was too!).

Quidditch Through the Ages

Did you know that: there are 700 ways of committing a foul in Quidditch? The game first began to evolve on Queerditch Marsh - What Bumphing is? That Puddlemere United is oldest team in the Britain and Ireland league (founded 1163). All this information and much more could be yours once you have read this book: this is all you could ever need to know about the history, the rules - and the breaking of the rules - of the noble wizarding sport of Quidditch.


Finally have this book! Now I'm only missing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, which I should get ASAP because the movie is coming out!

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

23 books! I am so happy I got them all for such good prices! Nowadays I buy a lot of used or bargain books because they are usually in good conditions and then I don't have to spend so much money on them!

Black Friday Bookhaul!

     There weren't a lot of books on sale on the bookstore. But I bought some anyways. And I bought them today (Sunday), not on the actual Black Friday. But oh well... Here are the books:

 Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

I remember how excited people were about it. It was even the Booksplosion book of the month. (Christine's, Kat's, and Jesse's book club, on Youtube). But I heard a lot of negative comments about it. I want to read it to see what I think. 

Proxy by Alex London

This sounds so good! I am excited to read it!

The Clockwork Scarab by Colleen Gleason

I remember hearing Ariel (From Ariel Bissett on Youtube) talk about this book. And then I saw it at the bookstore and it was so cheap! I had to buy it!

Found Things by Marilyn Hilton

This is an example of buying a book by its cover. It's so pretty!!! I am not even sure what it is about, but I am excited to find out!

The Martian by Andy Weir

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.
After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate the planet while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded on Mars' surface, completely alone, with no way to signal Earth that he’s alive — and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone years before a rescue could arrive.
Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. I really liked the movie! It was so funny!
