November Wrap-Up & December TBR

I actually only read one book in November and that's deppressing. I've been so busy with school I've had no time for reading at all. I won't reach my Goodreads goal but oh well. 

1- Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things (4/5)
I really wanna write a full review on this book but I know I probably won't have time 😢
I absolutely loved the characters. I really needed a supernatural book to read during Halloween, and although this wasn't a scary read, it was just what I wanted. I've been obsessed with werewolves for the past few years and the pack of wolves in this book is probably my favourite. I love how there are many different supernatural creatures (and some of them are quite unusual) and it was super interesting and entertaining to read about. I really recommend this book if it's the kind of read you're into. 

DECEMBER TBR

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

HP always feels like a Winter read. So I decided to reread the first one then keep going with the whole series. 



 When a letter arrives for unhappy but ordinary Harry Potter, a decade-old secret is revealed to him that apparently he's the last to know. His parents were wizards, killed by a Dark Lord's curse when Harry was just a baby, and which he somehow survived. Leaving his unsympathetic aunt and uncle for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry stumbles upon a sinister mystery when he finds a three-headed dog guarding a room on the third floor. Then he hears of a missing stone with astonishing powers, which could be valuable, dangerous – or both. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

A Christmas Carol

I got a beautiful illustrated version and I can't wait to read it!



 A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an old miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. After their visits Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.








Well, hopefully I'll read another book before the year is over. But it's okay if not. It's not about how many I've read, but about how many I've loved.

October Wrap-Up and November TBR

If there's one thing you can count on, is that I'll always post my Wrap-Ups and TBRs. Here we are again, another month has passed and I only read two books this month, which is okay I guess... Here they are:

1- The Glass Castle (4.5/5)
     I loved this book. It made me happy and sad just like the movie did. I cried and had very strong feelings about the characters, particularly since they are actual real people. I don't usually autobiographies, but this one is so good and I really recommend it. I recommend the movie too. It is fantastic. 

2- The Death Cure (3.5/5)
     Finally read the third book in the Maze Runner series. Since the movie is coming out soon, I just had too. I definitely enjoyed this one more than the Scorch Trials. But it still wasn't as good as The Maze Runner... It was an interesting ending, but not really what I wanted. Also no spoilers, but if you've read the book you know there's a part that I really hate and that I wish hadn't happened. But I was spoiled for it so I wasn't really surprised when it happened...

NOVEMBER TBR

Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things

I know I know, the title is kinda weird... But I really wanted to read a Halloweeny book and this ebook was free on Amazon and it really got my attention. I am halfway through it and I low key am loving it. The characters are great and there are werewolves and I love werewolves packs so much. 

17 year old Ember Denning has made an art of isolating herself. She prefers the dead. She spends her days skipping school in old cemeteries and her nights hiding from her alcoholic father at the funeral home where she works. When her own father dies, Ember learns her whole life is a lie. Standing in the cemetery that’s been her sanctuary, she’s threatened by the most beautiful boy she’s ever seen and rescued by two people who claim to be her family. They say she’s special, that she has a supernatural gift like them…they just don’t know exactly what it is. 

They take her to a small Florida town, where Ember’s life takes a turn for the weird. She’s living with her reaper cousins, an orphaned werewolf pack, a faery and a human genius. Ember’s powers are growing stronger, morphing into something bigger than anything anybody anticipated. Ember has questions but nobody has answers. Nobody knows what she is. They only know her mysterious magical gift is trying to kill them and that beautiful dangerous boy from the cemetery may be the only thing standing between her and death. 

As Ember’s talents are revealed so are the secrets her father hid and those in power who would seek to destroy her. What’s worse, saving Ember has put her cousins in danger and turned her friend’s lives upside down. Ember must learn to embrace her magic or risk losing the family she’s pieced together.

I'm definitely reading at least another books this month, but I have no idea which one yet. I'm gonna see what I'll feel like reading after finishing this one...

September Wrap Up & October TBR

 

        I'm a little late, but to be honest, uni has been keeping me so busy I didn't even realize it was October and that I hadn't posted this yet until today. Unfortunately, I had to change my Reading Goal on Goodreads from 50 to 40 books. I'm upset but it is what it is. I literally have almost no free time anymore so I've been reading fewer books than usual.

OCTOBER TBR

The Glass Castle
     Saw the movie recently and loved it. A family friend lent me the book and I'm already halfway through it. Might do a book + movie review once I'm done.

Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and above all, how to embrace life fearlessly. Rose Mary, who painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family, called herself an "excitement addict." Cooking a meal that would be consumed in fifteen minutes had no appeal when she could make a painting that might last forever. 

Later, when the money ran out, or the romance of the wandering life faded, the Walls retreated to the dismal West Virginia mining town -- and the family -- Rex Walls had done everything he could to escape. He drank. He stole the grocery money and disappeared for days. As the dysfunction of the family escalated, Jeannette and her brother and sisters had to fend for themselves, supporting one another as they weathered their parents' betrayals and, finally, found the resources and will to leave home.

The Death Cure
    The trailer came out and I've been putting off reading this book for far too long. Let's just say I got spoiled (if you've read the book, you know which spoiler I'm talking about) for something I really wish didn't happen. But oh well, here I go.

SEPTEMBER TBR

       Gonna try to finish As You Wish this month. University just started and I already have so much homework. I know I won't be able to read much this month.

A Bollywood Affair

         Not sure if this is the one I'll be reading but I don't have any other book planned so I might as well read it.

July Wrap Up & August TBR

        Look who actually read all the books that were on her TBR for July!!! I had hoped to read a little bit more since it's summer, but I've been doing some other stuff so I didn't really have as much time as I thought I would. Anyways, here they are!

1- The Trials of Apollo - The Dark Prophecy (3.5/5)
          The second book in the Trials of Apollo series finally came out! Not gonna lie, I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did the first one. The plot wasn't as intriguing, and it felt a little bit boring and monotonous at times. I still loved Rick's writing and the humour, but I was expecting a little bit more. I had hoped to see more old characters returning, there were some, but not enough to satisfy me. The ending though left me quite intrigued and I can't wait to read the next one.

AUGUST TBR

The Dream Thieves
        Couldn't help myself and ended up buying the second and third book in the Raven Cycle series!



Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same.        Another ARC that I was sent by a publisher. The story sounds really interesting and I can't wait to read it and review it for you guys!

          Well, this is bad... Just a little bit. I have an excuse though! So much happened this last month: There were finals, I graduated high school, went on a trip with my best friends... I had other things to worry about, not that reading isn't important, but still. 

1- Dragonsong (4/5)
         I read this book for my book club and I really enjoyed it! I rarely read fantasy books like this, so I can't really compare to others... But this book was so easy to read and I quite liked the author's writing style. The story brings out that desire to see actual dragons and to own one. The main character was a likeable girl. I recommend it if your looking for a small fantasy book, particularly if you, like me, aren't very familiar with the genre.

JULY TBR

         I actually started reading this last month, and got half way through it. So I'm gonna count it as a wrap up for this month. Anyways, super excited to dive back in this awesome world and see what awaits for Apollo this time.

Autonomous 
      Yet another book I got from a publisher. This story sounds so freaking cool. I can't wait to read it.

    Goodreads is saying that I'm two books behind schedule for my reading challenge but I've been reading a good amount of books so Goodreads can't you just be happy for me??

2- Revealed (2/5)

        This was a reread. I love the House of Night series and the worldbuilding; however, the last few books were just dragging on the series and ended up not being good. (This is book number 11!) Zoey was incredibly annoying the whole time and I just wanted it to be over. 

3- Redeemed (3/5)

         Finally the end of the series. It was nice finally getting a closure, but it could definitely have been better. I just heard that there will be a new series, following months after the events of this last book. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's nice getting to see the characters doing other things besides fighting Neferet but also I think 12 books and a bunch of companion novellas is enough.

4- The Warrior Heir (2/5)

         I remember when this came out and everyone on Booktube was talking about it. This was on my book club list and I suggested that we read it and now I kinda regret it. It was really boring, and pretty much nothing happened until the end. The characters were annoying and a lot of things were predictable. I heard that second book is way better so I might give it a shot one day...

JUNE TBR

         My book club decided to read 2 books this month and this is one of them. I haven't read many books with dragons in it and I have a friend that absolutely adores dragons, so I should probably read more of them. They must be good since she loves them so! I just started it and I'm actually quite enjoying it.

2- Book of a Thousand Days (4.5/5)
       Very sweet book! I love Dashti (the protagonist) and how strong she is! This is more of a middle grade book but it's still worth reading if you're looking for a simple fairy-tale-retelling-feel book.

3- Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (3/5)
     Kinda relatable in some aspects. Definitely was expecting more. The story was a bit boring but I guess it's more realistic than some. 

4- Carry On (5/5)
    I loved this book so much!!! I have to write a full review on this because I just have so much to say!

5- Near + Far (1.5/5)
    I read this book for my Creative Writing class book club and I honesly did not like it at all. This is a short stories book, and I'm not a big fan of books like these (probably because I've never read one where all/most of the stories were good). Some of the stories were okay but overall they were super confusing and had potential to be better, I actually started this in March but I read most of it last month so here it is. 

MAY TBR

Everything, Everything 
    
   Ended up reading this on the first two days of this month. A review will be coming out on Sunday!


My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Revealed 
     I'll be rereading this 11th book in The House of Night series so that I can refresh my mind as to what happened in the book so that I can read the final book.


Drastically altered after her fall at the end of Hidden, Neferet is now more dangerous than ever—and her quest for vengeance will wreak havoc on humans, as well as Zoey and her friends.     Finally, hopefully, definitely gonna finish this series this month!

March Wrap-Up & April TBR

       

   Omg guys I can't believe I didn't post anything last month besides my February Wrap-Up and March TBR! I don't know why I didn't, to be honest, because I have so many ideas for posts... I guess I was just lazy (and busy too)? Anyways, I'll try to post more this month because there are a few movies and books that I really wanna discuss with you guys. This month I read three books, which is good, but apparently, I am two books behind schedule on my Goodreads challenge... But I think I can catch up. You might notice that I didn't read "Wormwood", that was on my March TBR, and that's because I stopped reading it. I read the first four chapters and I really didn't like the writing style and how the story was dragging on and not capturing my interest at all. I decided that there were better books for me to spend my time reading. I might try reading it again, but I might also just give up on it. I never give up on books so that'll be something new for me. I kinda feel bad... If any of you have read the book: what did you think of it? Does it get better?

1- Cinderella Pop (3/5)

     This is a retelling of Cinderella written by a Brazilian author that I quite like. Unfortunately, I don't think it has been published anywhere besides Brazil... I liked this book, but definitely not as much as I did the other two companion retellings of Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid. It was a cute contemporary, but to be honest I didn't really feel the connection between the protagonist and the love interest. It was too insta-love, more than you would expect in a modern fairy tale retelling. I'm not sure if she's gonna write any other books in this series but I hope so because I really liked the Little Mermaid one, maybe one about Beauty and the Beast since the adaptation recently came out?

2- Never Always Sometimes (3/5)

     Another cute contemporary this month. This one was really cheap on Ebook so I just had to buy it, since I had heard good things about it before. It was a nice story. I liked the relationship between the characters. And the ending was totally not what I was expecting it to be, and I'm really glad. It was well written and quite entertaining. 

3- The Princess Bride (4/5)

     Oh my god guys this was so much better than I had expected! Before reading it, I had never seen the movie, so I didn't really know what it was about. I was really surprised by the awesome writing style. Because it is considered a classic, I was afraid it would be slow paced and boring, but instead, it was really fast paced and super entertaining! I wanna write a review on it so I won't go into too much detail. Really recommend this book! (Also recommend reading the introduction because I totally skipped that, and read it after I was done, but I think it really adds to the way the author tells the story.)

     I've been wanting to read this book for so long. And now the TV show is finally on Netflix and I really wanna read the book before watching it!

     This is my Book Club's book of the month and I'm really excited because the story sounds really interesting!

When Lady Saren refuses to marry a man she fears, she and her maid, Dashti, are locked in a tower with just a tiny flap open to the outside world. As food runs low and the weather changes from broiling hot to unbearably cold, it is all Dashti can do to make them comfortable in their dark prison.

Not long after their confinement begins, Saren's suitors arrive - one welcome, the other less so - and she orders Dashti to speak to them. Impersonating Lady Saren is a crime punishable by death, but Dashti will have to play the role many times if she is to save them both from the tower and the dangers outside. As she takes control of their desperate situation, Dashti begins to understand her own astonishing talents and believe that even a low-born maid can find true love.
